Programs
We are open September through June, offering separate programs for preschoolers (ages 3-5), toddlers (ages 2-3), and one of Portland’s only programs for young toddlers (ages 12-24 months).
SWPCC’s 4-hour programs (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) offer children ample time to settle into the environment, form attachments to the teacher, parents, and other children, and choose among activities at their own pace. The longer morning also allows parents more flexibility with their time than the city-wide norm of 2 1/2-hour preschool programs. High adult/child ratios are maintained with the help of parent volunteers in our classrooms.
The Young Toddler Program: (Must be 1 year old by Sep. 1st of current school year.) Children ages 12 months (and walking) to 24 months can attend up to three days per week. The adult/child ratio is 1:3 or higher.
The Toddler Program: Children two to three years old can attend up to four days per week. The adult/child ratio is 1:4 or higher.

The Preschool Program: Children three to five years old can attend up to four days per week. The adult/child ratio is 1:5 or higher.
Family Involvement: SWPCC is just as much about parents as it is about children…
- Parents play a vital role as the teacher’s assistant on shift days. We have both moms and dads who work in the classroom each week. Most importantly, parents help the teacher understand their children better by sharing information about their children’s interests, fears, and special joys.
- Through volunteer job assignments or Board positions, parents share the responsibility for operating all aspects of the co-op.
- Parents have opportunities to attend parenting classes and other educational events offered at SWPCC and through Parent-Child Preschools of Oregon.
- Parent involvement allows SWPCC to keep costs down, which ensures affordable rates.
